10 Class Discussion: Changes To Modern Heathenry – Led by Burt Johns Location: Tent B
Heathenry has become increasingly monotheistic and patriarchal. While there were always groups like this, (Theodism, AFA, for example) they stayed to themselves. More recently, given shows like “The Vikings” and the current political climate that is racist, anti-woman, anti-LGBTQ, etc., we have been seeing an increasing focus on racism, monotheism and patriarchy within both Heathenry and Norse Paganism.
These groups are increasingly crossing over into the general pagan world where they are more noticeable and aggressive than they were years ago. Paganism is where we all went to avoid this type of thinking. Paganism has traditionally been goddess-centered, nature-based, collaborative with a “live and let live” philosophy.
This class will discuss ways to ensure that as leaders and members of groups you can spot these people and negative trends in groups you might be affiliated with and know that “it’s not just you”, and, it’s okay to dissent and or leave the group (or invite these people to leave the group).
